What is Medchart?
Medchart is an online service that allows patients to request, access and control their digital health records from any hospital, clinic or pharmacy in Canada. It can also be used by third party requesters (eg. lawyers, insurance companies) or other health professionals (allied health, naturopaths, hospitals, other clinics) to request and obtain digital health records from a patient’s primary physician with patient consent.
Why is there a cost?
It takes time for a physician and medical office administrative staff to review, prepare and facilitate a release of records. The cost will range depending on the time required to complete the request and will be provided to you once the request is reviewed. This cost is an uninsured service. Payment will be requested and must be paid directly via Medchart before records will be released.
Why are we using Medchart?
Your privacy and security of your information is a priority. Medchart uses industry leading bank level security encryption and is far more secure than fax and mail options. Medchart complies with all federal and provincial privacy legislation including PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documentation Act), PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act), PIPA (Personal Information Protection Act), PHIA (Personal Health Information Act), HIA (Health Information Act) and other privacy legislations.
Sharing of Information
Once your medical records are released they are yours to share with anyone you trust. Medchart allows you to share records with other doctors, your family, lawyer, allied health professionals and you can restrict access in the future.
