Vaccines That Matter This Fall

A healthier season starts with you

Recommended Vaccinations

Flu Vaccine

Influenza is a respiratory virus that circulates most often in Ontario during the fall and winter. It ranges from mild to severe and spreads from direct contact, coughs, sneezes, and face-to-face contact. Getting your flu shot each year is the most effective way to stay protected.

A yearly flu vaccine is recommended for nearly everyone ages 6 months and older. Getting it in the fall, before flu season starts, helps you avoid the flu, lowers the risk of severe illness, and keeps those around you safer.

RSV Vaccine

Respiratory Syncytial Virus, or RSV, is a common respiratory virus that can cause cold-like symptoms. It spreads through coughs, sneezes and close contact. Most people get mild symptoms but infants, older adults, and those with certain conditions are at a higher risk for serious complications like pneumonia.

The OHIP’s RSV program includes monoclonal antibodies for infants and high risk kids under 2, maternal vaccination during pregnancy, and vaccines for adults 75+ and high risk adults 60-74. Getting immunized in the fall helps prevent illnesses, protects families, and supports the health-care system during respiratory virus season.

Covid-19 Vaccine

Covid-19 is a respiratory illness that spreads through direct contact and contaminated surfaces. It can cause anything from mild symptoms to severe pneumonia, with older adults and people with health conditions at highest risk.

In Ontario, Covid-19 vaccines are available for everyone 6 months and older. Staying up to date on your vaccine helps lower your risk of serious illness and keeps you protected as the virus continues to circulate.
